Steve Keyes and Sean Altman are founding members and current tenor lead vocalists of nationally renowned vocal quartet The GrooveBarbers, as well as founding former members of pioneering a cappella group ROCKAPELLA, and have been harmonizing together for decades, with a special blend and sparkling style all their own. Featured as the co-lead singers of suave quartet “The Astelins” in the national television advertising campaign for Astelin Nasal Spray, Sean & Steve have also teamed up with their fellow GrooveBarbers in recent appearances with pop legend Marshall Crenshaw in New York City, with a cappella icon Jerry Lawson of the Persuasions in Boston’s Symphony Hall, and as headliner hosts for “Columbus A Cappella Fest!” at Columbus’s own historic Lincoln Theatre. Over the years, they have performed together in such venues as Radio City Music Hall and Madison Square Garden, in TV appearances including Entertainment Tonight, and as featured soloists in Spike Lee’s groundbreaking “Do It A Cappella” documentary during their years as ROCKAPELLA lead vocalists.
In their special New Year’s Eve performance with ProMusica and The High Street Stompers, Steve & Sean will share their close duet harmonies (with Sean quite handy on guitar) as they bring together music of the Everly Brothers, The Beatles, and more. The High Street Stompers Dixieland Band was formed in 1987 when all the original members were Professors in the School of Music at The Ohio State University. The band members were Tom Battenberg, trumpet, Gary Carney, trombone, Jim Curlis, drums, Robert LeBlanc, tuba, Jim Pyne, clarinet, and Paul Robinson, banjo. Tom Battenberg, Paul Robinson, and Jim Curlis are the three remaining members of the original band. Don Seelbach, clarinet, joined the band in 1992, Sid Townsend, tuba, in 2000, Vaughn Wiester, trombone, in 2003, and Michael Cox, clarinet, became a permanent member in 2006. After the first recording sessions for this album took place in 2008, Jim Curlis developed elbow problems that limited his ability to play the drums. Jim Rupp has been filling in since and helped us finish their fourth and most recent recording.
