Dear Friends: Happy Holidays to each and all! Experience the joys of music at this wonderful time of the year. Sing as well as listen. Bring family and friends and share the gift of music! On Friday evening December 11th join ProMusica for our annual Messiah Sing-Along. Come to the glorious Southern Theatre to sing the most cherished choruses from Handel’s beloved masterpiece. Singers will be seated by vocal part – all of the sopranos together, all of the basses together, etc. – in order to bolster the collective spirit of the choristers. However, those of you who want to sit with friends and still sing may certainly do this as well. If you simply want to come and listen, that’s fine too. There will be room for everyone. This year it’s Messiah (and More), as we add some traditional holiday carols to end the evening, sending us out into the world uplifted and ready to celebrate. ProMusica believes in Kaizen (the Japanese concept of “constant daily improvement”). To that end, we listen to you, our audience, and always appreciate your suggestions for how we can make your musical encounters more enjoyable and rewarding. A number of our loyal sing-along friends suggested the addition of the carols to this year’s festivities and we are delighted to be able to oblige. I always look forward to this very special evening – truly great music, mass public participation, sharing the podium with educational and artistic partners, as well as sharing the stage with our high school side-by-side musicians. Much of what makes music memorable is a sense of community, and this evening brings together so many people in such a wonderful way. Our Saturday and Sunday subscription concerts offer a Baroque Holiday, featuring festive Baroque favorites. Our program includes Bach’s remarkable Brandenburg Concerto No. 3, Pachelbel’s cherished Canon, Corelli’s splendid Christmas Concerto, Vivaldi’s energetic Concerto for Two Trumpets as well as Winter from the Four Seasons, selections from Handel’s magnificent Water Music as well as three traditional carols arranged by our own Tom Battenberg (in the spirit of the Baroque) – Jolly Old St. Nicholas, O Come All Ye Faithful, and Good King Wenceslas. Share the Holiday spirit! Invite friends to join you for these programs. Give the gift of music – offer tickets to ProMusica as early holiday presents. You most certainly will want to fill your hearts with the majestic sounds of this festive time of the year. We are so very excited about the wonderful opportunities we have to usher in your holidays with music that will lift your spirits. Then, before you know it, we’ll be turning our calendars to 2010 and our program of Dynamic Duos. We are all richly blessed by the gifts of music. Happy Holidays to you and yours!
