Joshua Bowman, a native of California, is currently pursuing doctoral studies in percussion performance at Indiana University’s Jacobs School of Music with minors in arts administration and music education. He received his Master’s of Music in percussion performance at Indiana University in 2006.
In 2002, Joshua performed with Shockwave, a Blast Inc. production. After the show completed its season in 2003, he became a percussion instructor for high schools in and around Orange County, California as well as for the Pacific Crest Youth Arts Organization. In addition, Joshua performed as a freelance musician with the Pacific Brass Ensemble, the West Coast Enigma Brass Quartet, the Rio Hondo Symphony, and served as timpanist for the Corona del Mar baroque music festival. In Indiana, Joshua has performed with the Evansville Philharmonic, the Columbus Philharmonic, and the Terre Haute Symphony.
Joshua’s interests are in new music, world music, and music education. He has studied with respected musicians such as Kevin Bobo, Anthony Cirone, Gerald Carlyss, Steve Houghton, Todd Miller and John Tafoya.
His professional goals include teaching in a university setting and influencing modern percussion pedagogy through performance and research.
