Cora Kuyvenhoven

Cellist Cora Kuyvenhoven is presently adjunct professor at Otterbein University and the cellist of the faculty string quartet; QUBE. Cora is also cello and chamber music coach at Denison University. Since her move to the Columbus area in the spring of 2000, Cora has been assistant principal cellist for ProMusica Chamber Orchestra and is sought after as chamber musician and soloist. Concerts have included guest performances with the Oxford String Quartet, Advendo Duo, and representing ProMusica in various chamber music settings. Cora completed her DMA degree at the University of Iowa (2000). Recipient of the Iowa Performance Fellowship, and the Peltzer Award, Cora performed, recorded and toured with The Center For New Music. May of 2000 she recorded contemporary chamber works for The Center For New Music's latest CD release under the direction of David Gompper. Featured as the resident Duo at the “Tutti” new music festival at Denison University with violist Mary Harris in 2004, they performed works by Brings, Chambers, Hindemith, Clark and Lutoslawski.

Cora has also performed, recorded and toured with the Toronto Symphony in Europe, Asia, Australia, and North America. An active member in the new music scene in Toronto, Cora was involved in many world premieres including the gala anniversary of the Canadian Music Center. Continuo player for the Mississauga Choral Society and Trinity United, she has performed continuo for the major oratorio repertoire. Cora has performed with the Canadian Opera Company Orchestra, and the National Ballet Orchestra of Canada. She has been soloist with Kalistos, Welsh Hills Symphony, Plymouth Symphony, National Arts Chamber Orchestra, and the Windsor Symphony. Cora obtained her A.R.C.T. licentiate from the Royal Conservatory of Music in Toronto with first class honours, studied at the Banff School of Fine Arts, and was a national finalist in the Canadian Music Competition. She received her MFA from the University of Wisconsin - Milwaukee where she performed in the Advendo String Trio, under the tutelage of the Fine Arts Quartet. Cora received a post masters degree at University of Michigan-Ann Arbor, where she was a member in the graduate string quartet.

From 2004-2008 Cora has been a cello instructor, continuo player, and spiritual mentor at MasterWorks Summer Festival in Indiana. Currently Cora lives in Columbus with her husband Martin Spencer, and their two children, Carmina and Benjamin.
